In the dark water, the waves (butoh dancers) shine silk blue. Goldfish (butoh dancers) swim in it. The crane waits for the moment to grab the prey. The video shows a silent hunt accompanied by a zither cannon (new composition with a traditional instrument).
Culture as identity is constructed by the collective. Culture is always related to meaning. Is in transformation. With her work, Quynh Dong makes claims in order to question the definition of identity. In her assertion she approaches Vietnamese art history. The work of Pham Hau, a pioneer of Vietnamese lacquer painting, serves as a template for this work (video interpretation).
